Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations 2012 – Update

Queen's Jubilee Logo
Thanks to everyone who returned their forms to reserve places for the Children’s Party and the Big Lunch. This has really helped with our initial budgeting and planning – if you haven’t completed your form because you are not yet sure of your plans for next summer, we would urge you to book a provisional place. Please contact Ven Bolton – details below.

We are delighted to tell you that our fund raising has got off to a great start with a very generous donation of £2000 from the Parish Council and a smaller (but at the time of writing unconfirmed) contribution from Learning for Pleasure’s October Quiz with Fish and Chip Supper. Demand outstripped capacity this time so we are hoping to run another in the Spring.

Next up is the Dinner and Silent Auction to be held on 12 November – ring Ven Bolton (number below) for tickets for the dinner. You can also support by making bids for one of the fantastic Christmas presents which have been donated by local organisations. The booklet has been circulated around the village and also appears on the Sharnbrook village website. Deadline for bids is 12 noon on the 12th, place your bids in the special box in the Post Office.

At the Sharnbrook Christmas Fayre on Friday 2nd December, we will be selling our very own Sharnbrook Calendar created by the Learning for Pleasure photography group. We will also be running a children’s book stall – if you have any good quality books to donate, please contact the number below.

Apart from money, we are now asking for practical help with some of our events

  • Saturday, 2 June from 2 pm – are there some mums and dads who would like to help to organise an It’s a Knockout-type event for families based around the 5 inflatables booked from KingBounceaLot!
  • Sharnbrook’s got Talent – Monday 4th at 7 pm – is there anyone who can give us some advice on sound systems, or would like to act as MC on the night?
  • Children’s Party, Tuesday 5th – Sharnbrook Ladies have kindly offered to do the food, Val Cox is in charge of Fancy Dress but we need some help with organising children’s races, entertainment etc.
  • Proms on the Playing Fields – again anyone out there who can help with telling us what sound systems we need. Fireworks are booked and we are getting together the various entertainers – any offers from musicians, singers, groups etc much appreciated.

If we can draw on as much help as possible from the village, we can divide up the jobs into small packages which will be enjoyable but not too demanding for anyone. And if people support our fund raising activities, everything that weekend will be FREE.

As you will appreciate, the Committee will welcome any offers of help, donations, prizes, fund raising ideas – in the first instance please ring please ring Ven Bolton (Chair) tel: 01234 782935 or email brian.ven@tiscali.co.uk
